Meyers Nave Law Firm
Using PR to Promote Special Expertise
The Oakland, California-based law firm of Meyers Nave represents cities and counties throughout California, acting as in-house counsel in many cases. The firm’s extensive knowledge in all areas of municipal law, coupled with hands-on experience in negotiating and litigating, is unmatched. The firm contacted the Placemaking Group to raise its profile among public officials and to position it as an authority in these priority areas of expertise. The goal of the program was two fold: attract new clients and recruit new attorneys.
The firm’s attorneys offer public officials creative solutions and sound legal advice on an array of regulatory issues, from HR to police work to the environment.. The Placemaking Group created a publicity program that highlighted this expertise. It included story placements such as a quarterly expert column on workplace issues in a key business journal and a trade journal feature on the legalities of handling evidence. The program also included regular personnel and new client announcements that yielded ink.
Through a targeted multi-year media relations program, we successfully increased awareness of the firm among government agencies and regional law circles. Stories were placed in the well-read The National Law Journal and the Recorder, Western City magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, Contra Costa Times and the Sacramento Business Journal and East Bay Business Times. Media exposure gained was approximately $120,000 in ad equivalency over one year’s time.
