Reinvesting in Sacramento - Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament
Finding Reasons to Give
The Catholic Diocese wanted to raise $35 million for the
restoration of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. The challenge
was to find reasons why the community would want to give. We
found the Cathedral was:
- The oldest continuously operating
Cathedral west of the Mississippi
- Had roots that extend to the Gold Rush
- Built by Northern California artisans and companies from
materials unique to Northern California and found families
and companies three generations later whose ancestors were
instrumental in building and financing the Cathedral
- The site of governors’ installations, weddings, funerals, social
rallies and concerts for some of Northern California’s most
famous and significant political events and community leaders.
Placemaking Group’s job was to communicate the compelling story
about the Cathedral. We produced:
- Web site, brochure, direct mail pieces and media kit
- Media coverage in the Sacramento Bee, Sacramento
Magazine, Comstock’s, Convention & Visitors Bureau
annual brochure, Sacramento Business Journal, KFBK,
KCRA, KOVR, KXTV, FOX 40, KQ 58, KXJZ, KXPR
- 5-minute video
- Cathedral Museum comprised of artwork, sculpture,
stained-glass windows, artifacts from the 1800s
discovered during restoration that was used for donor
presentations, and media and public tours
- News conferences
- Community events
- Large and small events for community leaders and target donors
- Artwork from local artists depicting the Cathedral in the 1880
